A staple accessory to the Walkman of the past was the iconic MDR-3 headphone and with retro tech recently making a comeback, Sony decided to bring the MDR to the present. With very minimal changes to the physical look of the headphone, the real change is in the updated connection to USB-C, built-in microphone for phone calls and in-line remote control. Sound quality should be roughly the same as it was, Sony does not claim to have made any real upgrades to quality when it comes to noise cancellation or bass as the ear cups are very small.
Retailing for $59.99 in its original Silver colorway with Blue and Orange foam ear covers in the box allowing you to choose your style. If you’re a fan of the Netflix’s Stranger Things, there is a Red and Black Stranger Things branded version of the MDR-3R for an extra $20 with no changes to the actual sound or function of the headphone.
